Des Moines man pleads guilty to stabbing girlfriend, sentenced to prison

DES MOINES, Iowa — After pleading guilty to stabbing his girlfriend during a dispute, court records show a Des Moines man has been sentenced to prison.

On January 23, the Des Moines Police Department said officers were called to an apartment in the 2800 block of Grand Avenue around 11 p.m. for reports of a dispute. Upon arrival, authorities found a stabbing victim in the stairwell of the complex. DMPD officers reported the victim had lost a lot of blood and initiated first aid. The victim was transported to the hospital, where they were treated for injuries and began to recover.

DMPD officers arrested 43-year-old Lewis Henry Miller near the scene. Miller was initially charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury. Court records show an Attempted Murder charge was later filed. Documents also state that a dangerous weapon enhancement was added to the Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury charge.

The documents state that during the incident, Miller hit the victim with a picture frame and pulled a knife. Records state he then cut the victim’s wrist, arm, hand, and neck before stabbing her in the lower back as she attempted to run away…
