Memorial Day is on Monday and there are several services happening across Dallas County.
Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464 will hold a ceremony at 9 a.m. at Adel Oakdale Cemetery. Ron Gilliland will be the Master of Ceremonies and the service will feature a Raising of Colors by the Adel Scouts, along with music by Gotta Zing, wreath presentation, rifle salute and taps. A Semiquincentennial Message will also be shared that highlights the 250th Anniversary Project of the Adel American Legion and Auxiliary, honoring the Civil War veterans by cleaning their gravestones.
The American Legion Osborne Post 99 in Minburn will conduct four observances to recognize veterans buried in three cemeteries in the area as well as the soldiers lost on water. Programs will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Cemetery, 10 a.m. at Kimrey Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with guest speaker Mayor Joe Stetelberg and 11 a.m. at Raccoon River Bridge with bugler Addie Rowe. A chili dog lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Meek Park Food Stand in Minburn. Free-will donations will be taken with proceeds funding the Auxiliary’s Elmwood Cemetery mapping project…
