There’s always something special about a visit to Greenfield Village, but this summer brings a truly meaningful new experience for Metro Detroit families. The Jackson Home—an important landmark from the Civil Rights Movement—is officially opening to the public for the first time at Greenfield Village, and families are invited to celebrate during a special Greenfield Village Block Party, June 12–14, 2026.
Originally located in Selma, Alabama, the home of Dr. Sullivan Jackson and Mrs. Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson served as a gathering place for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders during the pivotal events leading up to the Selma-to-Montgomery marches. Now carefully restored inside Greenfield Village, the home offers families a powerful opportunity to step inside history and experience an important story in a personal, meaningful way.
To celebrate this major opening—the first new home added to Greenfield Village in more than 40 years—The Henry Ford is hosting a village-wide block party packed with special programming, music, Southern-inspired food, and a Black-owned business market…
