Dearborn Heights man sentenced to 26-40 years in Highland Park hit-and-run

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – A 32-year-old Dearborn Heights man found guilty last month of multiple charges stemming from an April 2025 hit-and-run in Highland Park was sentenced last week to 26-40 years in prison.

Auorahem Jatoo Safar, 32, faced 11 felonies after police say he left the scene of a crash that severely injured a 58-year-old man and a 48-year-old man in the intersection of McNichols and Hamilton roads.

He was arrested a week later and charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder; two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder; two counts of committing a hate crime-using force, causing bodily injury, stalking or damaging property; one count of tampering with evidence; two counts of operating a vehicle without a license-causing serious injury; and two counts of failing to stop at the scene of a crash…
