DETROIT — Mayor Mary Sheffield expressed support on Sept. 22 for the city’s police chief as he faces an investigation in part because he asked a private citizen last month to remove social media posts of photographs of the mayor and a former romantic partner.
Speaking during an unrelated press conference in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, Sheffield said she “remains confident” in Chief Todd Bettison’s ability to lead the city’s police department and said crime continues to fall in the city in every major category.
