Hundreds attend Furniture Flip Bash
The 2nd Annual Furniture Flip Bash was held on Sept. 10, at the Village Club in Bloomfield Hills to benefit the Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit, which provides essential furniture and bedding to families and children in need in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. About 200 people attended the event, where more than 80 repurposed and restored furniture pieces from the Furniture Flip Challenge were on display. A silent auction was held and $1,000 prizes were also awarded by a panel of judges for the Best Children’s Piece, Most Transformative, Most Artistic and Best Restored, and a $1,000 “People’s Choice” award was given out after votes from attendees. The Best in Show $5,000 Winner, chosen by Hilary Farr, international interior designer and star of HGTV’s “Love It or List It,” was first-time flipper Lisa Sheldon from Detroit. Her French Provincial desk uses the bold, subversive lens of modern punk pop art to deface a symbol of historical luxury. More than $150,000 was raised for the Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit. Thirty-eight one-of-a-kind Furniture Flip Challenge pieces are still available in an online auction. Bidding ends at noon Sept. 30. Go to furniture-bank.org.
