Man armed with shotgun is shot by police after hours-long standoff at Taylor home, MSP investigating

TAYLOR (WWJ) — A 73-year-old Taylor man is hospitalized after it’s alleged he opened fire on police officers and was shot, according to Michigan State Police.

The public was urged to stay away from the area of Polk Street and Goddard — between Allen and Pardee in Talor — during the four-hour standoff that began Monday afternoon/

According to Taylor Police Lt. Joshua Schneider, officers and a SWAT team surrounded a home in the 11000 block of Polk after a report of multiple shots fired, something around 2 p.m.

Schneider told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Ryan Wrecker that police were dealing with an armed person who had barricaded himself inside the house.

At around 6:30 p.m., police said the man emerged from the home and fired multiple rounds at officers with a shotgun.

Officers fired back at the gunman, hitting him in the stomach. He was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was listed in serious condition Monday night.

There is no information at this time regarding the events that led to the initial shooting. Schneider noted that the suspect was “known to police,” but did not provide any details as to how they knew him.
