MSP Motor Carrier Officer, second person injured in I-75 crash; northbound freeway closed at Allen Road

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) — A Michigan State Police trooper and a second person have been injured in a crash along northbound I-75 near Dix.

Northbound I-75 is closed following the crash at Allen Road.

According to officials with the MSP Second District, the Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) was out on a traffic stop when their vehicle was hit by another vehicle.

People driving in the area told WWJ Newsradio 950 it appeared that the police car was pinned between two vehicles.

While there is no official word on the trooper’s condition, he was said to be responsive as he was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment.

“I have unofficially been told that the officers, again a Motor Carrier Vehicle Officer, gave a thumbs up, is breathing…I’m told he’s going to be fine,” WWJ’s Mike Campbell reported. “Again, that’s not a medical statement that I received, but it was from some of the law enforcement officers on scene.”

MSP said a second driver was also injured and was taking to a hospital. There is no word on that person’s condition at this time.
