TAYLOR – Protestors outside and inside city hall voiced their opposition to the Police Department cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during the May 5 City Council meeting.
The protestors voiced specific opposition to Taylor’s 287(g) program, initiated in April 2025, that indicates the Police Department will cooperate with ICE to enforcement federal immigration law and allows local officers to identify, detain and process immigrants in custody for removal.
While Police Chief John Blair said the Police Department is not doing anything it has not done in the past, those protesting the cooperation said that the recent actions of ICE agents across the country under the Trump administration have created a climate of fear, intimidation and violence which they oppose…
