DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Several law enforcement agencies last week ran an operation to crack down on the “ongoing threat” of impaired and reckless driving in Durham County following the March impaired driving crash that killed a North Carolina State Highway Patrolman, troopers said.
Master Trooper Steven J. Perry, 30, was killed in the early morning hours of March 1 during a head-on crash on N.C. 147 in Durham County, according to authorities.
Investigators said Perry’s patrol car was hit by a wrong-way driver, Melshawn Moore, 39, of Kinston. Moore, who troopers said was impaired, also died in the crash.
Perry, who had a fiancé and baby daughter, played football at Riverside High School before he was a student at North Carolina Central University from 2014 to 2017 and was a key member of the 2016 conference championship team…
