On this day in 2019, roughly 50 people attended a rally in Hillsborough to support a local chocolate-maker who challenged Confederate flag supporters. The local business owner was attacked on social media and received death threats after posting an anti-Confederate flag sign outside his shop.
“On a larger scale, we have been coming downtown because we as a community stand against these displays of hate and intimidation,” Caity McArthur, a member of Hillsborough Progressives Taking Action, said. “We don’t think that members of hate groups should be able to come onto the streets of downtown, block sidewalks and try to intimidate our community members.”…
