A motorcyclist has died following a crash at the intersection of McCrimmon Parkway and Green Level Church Road in Cary, at a stretch of road that has already seen repeated wrecks in recent months. Officers and firefighters were called to the scene around 7:11 p.m., and the motorcycle driver later died from injuries at the hospital.
The other driver involved stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to WRAL. The Cary Police Department said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and no details have been released yet about speed, turn movements, or who had the right of way at the intersection. McCrimmon Parkway falls under the jurisdiction of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, meaning any resulting safety changes at that specific spot would ultimately require state involvement.
This is not the first serious incident along this corridor. The station’s report notes McCrimmon Parkway has had two crashes since November, part of what it describes as a known history of multiple collisions on the road. The parkway also runs directly outside Panther Creek High School, funneling heavy school and neighborhood commuter traffic through the area every day.
A Corridor Already Under Scrutiny
Even before Sunday night’s fatal crash, the Town of Cary had been working on an approved design plan aimed at making McCrimmon Parkway safer for pedestrians, developed in coordination with Wake County Public Schools and NCDOT, per the same account.
