For nearly five decades, the Festival for the Eno has brought thousands of people to the banks of the Eno River around the Fourth of July. But the organization behind the festival says increasingly extreme heat and unpredictable weather have forced it to rethink when and how the fundraising event is held.
The Eno River Association — an organization working to conserve the Eno River Basin — did not hold its traditional festival this past July. Instead, it will celebrate its 60th anniversary on Saturday with a fall benefit concert and free community event in downtown Durham.
When the festival returns to the riverbanks, likely in 2027, it will be held in the spring or the fall…
