Carrboro High Students Dismissed Early Due to Piedmont Electric Power Outage

12:15 UPDATE: Piedmont Electric Cooperative’s outage map reported that the remaining customers who experienced an outage had restored service. On its Facebook page, the business cited a damaged transformer at its Carrboro substation as causing complications to repairs, which are ongoing.

11:30 a.m. UPDATE: While most Piedmont Electric customers who lost power saw theirs restored by 11:30 a.m., more than 2,600 customers along Smith Level Road are still experiencing an outage. Piedmont Electric estimates their power will be restored by 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools said due to the ongoing outage, Carrboro High School students are being dismissed for an unexpected half-day. The school is offering grab-and-go meals for lunch and school bus transportation is available for all students who typically ride the bus home. CHCCS said other dismissal procedures are taking place normally, just at 11:30 a.m.
