Oklahoma’s Interstate 35 the proving ground for autonomous trucks

A second trucking company has launched a freight route for autonomous semis on Oklahoma highways.

Aurora Innovation, partnering with Volvo Autonomous Solutions, announced the launch of a 200-mile route between Dallas and Oklahoma City to expand its autonomous freight network. The trucks will run in Oklahoma up to five days a week, Aurora said.

While you may envision a fleet of driverless trucks on the road, it’s not quite so futuristic. Oklahoma law doesn’t yet allow a fully driverless vehicle, but the on-board computers are still allowed to take the wheel…
