Spring music festivals rock Oklahoma, from Norman to Stillwater

Across Oklahoma, the sounds of spring are all around, from the rumble of thunder and the patter of rain to the chirps of birds and the croaks of frogs.

Given that spring is arguably the most festive time of the year in the Sooner State, some of those sounds come from indie rockers, bluegrass bands and Red Dirt singer-songwriters performing at the many music festivals playing out across Oklahoma.

From a new Oklahoma City event to celebrate the Route 66 centennial to a jazzy Norman fest that’s been making noise for more than four decades, here’s a guide some of the state’s top springtime music festivals:

Heard on Hurd, Edmond

  • When: 6 to 10 p.m. April 18.

Every third Saturday from March through October, the free monthly street festival showcases live, local music and a variety of food trucks and pop-up shops. Citizens Bank of Edmond organizes the Heard on Hurd block parties, and the April event coincides with the bank’s 125th anniversary. Brandon Birdwell, Hoss Miller and Sapphires Garden will play the April event.

Norman Music Festival

  • When: April 23-25.

The free, nonprofit, independent festival annually brings hundreds of acts and thousands of music fans to downtown Norman for three days of live music at several indoor and outdoor venues.
