SUNLAND PARK, N.M. – The Catholic bishops of Las Cruces and El Paso are calling on the faithful to climb Mount Cristo Rey on Sunday June 28, as the Church fights federal efforts to seize land on the mountain to build a border wall.
The pilgrimage procession will begin at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28 at the base of the mountain and will ascend to the peak, where Las Cruces Bishop Peter Baldacchino will celebrate Mass.
“This pilgrimage is not against the government, against a policy or anything else,” said Baldacchino. “It is for the Church; it is for unity and it is for religious freedom.”
