EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Amid County officials’ discussions to pass a budget for the upcoming year, the idea of raising the minimum wage for employees surfaced during talks at the courthouse on Monday, Aug. 10.
County Commissioner David Stout expressed an interest to see what it would take to bring the County’s minimum wage up to $16 an hour, which may cost over $1 million to accomplish, in addition to other pay increases for employees. When the day started, County officials budgeted $9.4 million in costs to increase cost of living, judge pay, step increases, supplements, and auto allowances.
The Commissioners Court approved some of the preliminary plans for those adjustments during the meeting on Monday, and decided to wait until staff could calculate costs on the minimum wage increases…
