The driver of a classic 1968 Volkswagen Beetle was killed in a three-vehicle collision Saturday evening at an East El Paso intersection next to Interstate 10, police officials said.
Adrian Dominguez, 42, of Socorro, died at a hospital following the traffic collision at 6:48 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Gateway East Boulevard and Giles Road, El Paso police said.

Dominguez was driving the white VW Beetle on Gateway East when he entered Giles on the turn-left only lane on a red light, police said. Traffic southbound on Giles had the green light.
A blue 2021 Dodge Charger was heading south on Giles when it collided with the Beetle, causing it to slide and crash into a silver 2003 Ford Expedition, which was stopped at the red light in the northbound lanes of Giles, police said.
Dominguez was critically injured and taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. Traffic investigators noted that disregarding the red light was a factor in the wreck.
