Erie is preparing for a grand return to the water this summer as the Parade of Sail is set to take place on July 2, bringing maritime history and celebration back to the Bayfront.
Leading the event will be the partially rigged U.S. Brig Niagara, a historic vessel that has spent months undergoing a $5 million restoration project in Maine. The extensive work had raised concerns about whether the ship would be ready in time for the annual festivities, but organizers have confirmed the Niagara will indeed make its return for the parade.
The event will begin at the channel of Presque Isle, where spectators can watch the procession of vessels as they sail into Erie. From there, the parade will travel toward Liberty Park before concluding at the Erie Maritime Museum, creating multiple viewing opportunities along the waterfront…
