Residents across Crawford County spent Monday cleaning up after a powerful storm swept through the region Sunday night, leaving behind widespread damage, downed trees, and power outages.
Conneautville was among the communities hardest hit. Fallen trees, broken branches, and downed power lines blocked roadways and left many residents without electricity for more than 24 hours.
Gary Clark was one of those still without power Monday morning. A lifelong Conneautville resident, Clark said he had never witnessed a storm like the one that moved through the area Sunday night. “I happened to look out and I could see the rotation of the clouds and I said, ‘This is not good.’ It lasted about two to three minutes, and when the wind and rain hit, it felt like a fog,” Clark said.
While Gary Clark’s home escaped major damage, his son Allen Clark’s property was not as fortunate.
Allen Clark, who serves as chief of the Fellows Club Fire Department, said fallen trees caused significant damage throughout the area, especially to his own property. “Especially trees down, taking out all the wires and utility poles. I had some trees on the garage. Fortunately, we were able to cut some of those down to get to some of my vehicles in the garage,” Clark said.
Clark said he was stunned by the amount of destruction caused in such a short period of time. “This just happens to be the most widespread damage we have seen in the Borough of Conneautville and the surrounding townships”, said Clark…
