Second Harvest Expands Summer Feeding Program to Reach More Children

For many children across northwest Pennsylvania, the school year provides not only an education but also reliable meals. When school lets out for the summer, those meals can be harder for families to replace.

To help meet that need, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania is expanding its Summer Child Feeding Initiative, serving an additional 300 children each week. The program provides nutritious food through School Pantries, Summer BackPacks, and partnerships with local organizations across Erie, Warren, and McKean counties.

Second Harvest CEO Gregory Hall says the goal is to ensure children have the food they need to stay healthy, active, and ready to learn throughout the summer.
