First phase of Greenway Trail project nearly done

Phase one of the Greenway Trail project on the east side of the City of Erie is nearly complete.

The project is a way to utilize vacant and abandoned properties and turn them into a pubic asset.

Ground broken on East Bayfront Greenway Trail

Phase one included transforming several vacant parcels between East 6th and 7th streets, just east of Parade Street.

There is now a walking trail, bike racks, lighted benches and community artwork.

“The hope is that by activating this space we’ve certainly increased the property values around the park and as we continue to look at blighted properties withing the area and trying to bring those properties online we accquired the property across the street which is just a tax sale with the erie land bank so we’ll be evaluating that one and hopefully getting that one out to a developer and continue to focus on this area and raise it up and try to imporve housing conditions,” said Aaron Snippert, the executive director of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Erie…
