Man charged in 2025 drowning near Presque Isle appears in court

(WJET/WFXP)– The Pennsylvania man charged in March for his alleged role in the drowning of a 17-year-old near Presque Isle State Park in 2025 has made his first appearance in court.

According to online court documents, 22-year-old Derek Bold of Irwin, PA, appeared in Erie County Court for his preliminary hearing on June 23, with charges being filed against him on March 30, including felony homicide by vehicle while operating a watercraft under the influence, misdemeanor homicide by watercraft, involuntary manslaughter and corruption of minors.

Court documents also show he was confined to Erie County Prison on $50,000 monetary bail on June 23 but was released later that day after posting bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 29 but was continued to July 14…
