PA to purchase $500,000 in grapes from local growers

Good news for area grape growers who have been struggling since Refresco cancelled their contracts earlier this year.

Governor Josh Shapiro’s office announced on Thursday that the state is investing $500,000 to purchase grapes grown in Erie County that’ll be made into concentrate then given to families in need.

The emergency funds will be used to buy 350 tons of Concord grapes from 11 local farmers.

The grapes will be processed at CK Natural in Westfield, New York, then distributed to food banks across Pennsylvania…
