The search for Corey Zearfoss is far from over, as family, friends, and community members rally in hopes of bringing the missing Erie fisherman home.
Zearfoss was last heard from around 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, after launching his boat from the East Avenue Boat Launch. More than 60 hours of searching covered 2,700 square nautical miles of Lake Erie, but the U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search after his 19-foot black Spectrum boat was found along the shoreline at Long Point, Ontario. Commander Adam Mosely called the decision one of the toughest the Coast Guard has faced.
Now, family, friends, and volunteers are stepping in to continue the effort. The group will meet Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. at Shades Beach on East Lake Road. Organizers ask that no pets be brought to the search.
