Many events in the area have been cancelled or postponed due to unhealthy air quality. Several businesses have also been closed for Friday, July 17.
Below is a list of current closures, cancellations and postponed or relocated events.
‘Very Unhealthy’ air quality index raises health concerns
Cancellations and closures:
- Second Harvest Food Bank has cancelled Friday’s Produce Express food distribution at John Horan Apartments.
- The Erie Zoo will remain closed through Friday. For updates, visit the zoo’s Facebook page here.
- Waldameer & Water World will be closed Friday. For updates, visit the park’s Facebook page here.
- UPMC Hamot has cancelled Steven Krauza’s 140-mile awareness bike ride from Erie to Pittsburgh. If possible, UPMC will reschedule the event.
Postponements:
- Tamarack Wildlife Center’s bald eagle release has been postponed. The release will be rescheduled for a later date. For questions or concerns, contact Carol Holmgren at 814-350-0495.
- Waterford Heritage Days’ fireworks have been cancelled for Friday evening. Weather-permitting, fireworks will take place on Saturday or Sunday at 10 p.m. For updates, visit the Waterford Heritage Days Facebook page here.
- Sundae dessert shop has cancelled their Summer Street Soiree to be rescheduled for a later date in either August or September. For updates, visit Sundae’s Facebook page here.
Relocations:
- Mission Empower’s Youth Summit has been moved indoors to their location at 1611 Peach Street, Suite 120.
- The Rock and Rescue concert benefitting the Erie Humane Society has been moved from Liberty Park to Warner Theatre. Tickets purchased for the original show at Rebich Investment Amphitheater will still be honored. More information can be found here.
- WQLN’s Sounds Around Town concert has been moved indoors. Friday’s show will now take place in WQLN’s main studio, located at 8425 Peach Street.
