Demolition work is finally getting underway on the former Edison Elementary School on East Lake Road. The brand-new Edison Elementary School opened in April for the final weeks of the school year, and now crews have begun clearing the way for the next phase of improvements at the old school site.
Heavy equipment has started tearing down the historic school, marking the end of an era for one of East Erie’s longtime neighborhood landmarks.
Crews began the project by uprooting mature trees and piling them up for removal before demolition equipment moved in to strip away the school’s windows and exterior framing. The building, which was constructed in 1931, has stood in the neighborhood for nearly a century.
