The Central Bayfront Parkway Improvement Project has been ongoing since 2023 and was initially projected to be a four-year project.
After falling behind schedule, PennDOT decided that closing the Bayfront Parkway would be the best way to catch up on construction, especially with Erie’s winter weather conditions.

According to Justin Baker, the project manager, their efforts were successful, and they are continuing to make a great amount of progress.
The closure is scheduled to come to an end on October 7.

“For the public as they drive down here beginning mid-April or so, it will really start to take shape of what the final products gonna look like,” said Baker. “A tremendous credit has to be given to the tradesmen and the contractor and the field staff working all winter long. I mean, the weather’s been just brutally cold, but because of that, because of the closure, we’ve been able to regain several years of this schedule, and we’re sitting really good this spring.”…
