Hiltz sets world lead at Prefontaine Classic

EUGENE, Or — Hayward magic returned for the second day of the 51st Prefontaine Classic with some impressive Duck performances.

Nikki Hiltz stole the show by setting the world lead time in the women’s mile, running a time of 4:17.49.

“It was a tactical race which was so fun, I love that,” Hiltz said. “With 200 meters to go, I just felt really good, and when you feel good in a race like this, it’s kind of rare that you feel good in our sport, so I just tried to capitalize on it. I work on my speed a ton … the last hundred, I was confident I could kick with anyone, but they did not make it easy for me. I think that crowd brought me home; it was the loudest I’ve ever heard Hayward, so it was just a lot of fun. I wish I could relive that moment over and over again because it was a fun one for sure.”…
