After 16 years working together under an intergovernmental agreement, Eugene Springfield Fire will separate into independent services.
The city of Eugene announced the decision in a news release posted in early July, with comments from Eugene City Manager Jenny Haruyama, Springfield City Manager Nancy Newton and Fire Chief Mike Caven.
“As our cities look to the future, this transition creates the opportunity for each community to govern, invest in, and plan fire and emergency services in ways that best reflect local needs and priorities,” Haruyama said in the release. “Throughout this process, residents can expect the same commitment to high-quality emergency response and public safety.”…
