EUGENE, Ore. – Families across the region are receiving free backpacks as part of a nationwide giveaway designed to help ease the financial burden of school supplies.
The Verizon retailer Round Room LLC is giving away $3 million worth of free backpacks across the country during its 14th “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.” Participating authorized Verizon stores retailer stores in Coos Bay, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Florence and Roseburg all participated in the giveaway on Sunday.
Employees inside the Eugene store on Royal Avenue said in past years, they’ve had a line out the door. While the turnout was somewhat smaller than expected, they said the backpack giveaway still has a big impact on local families…
