Man drove through Alton Baker Park after leaving scene of accident, police say

A driver accused of fleeing a crash in a parking lot and then speeding down the Alton Baker Park bike path was arrested after Eugene police tracked down the damaged vehicle in Springfield.

Eugene Police Department (EPD) said officers were called at 11:17 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 for a report of a driver in a Toyota Prius who had just left the scene of an accident at a nearby parking lot and drove down the Alton Baker Park bike path at a high rate of speed. Police said there were a number of joggers and cyclists in the park, raising concerns that pedestrians could be injured.

The victim in the hit-and-run told police he was in a parking lot when a Prius entered at a high rate of speed, did a 360-degree turn, and drove into the victim’s vehicle and up over a planter box before fleeing onto the park’s disk golf course, through the field and onto the bike path…
