Home Depot rival to close key locations soon

True Value is set to shut down operations at several locations by the end of this year.

TheStreet reports that the home improvement chain — first founded in Chicago, Illinois, back in the 1940s — will not only close its store in Washington, D.C., but also its Chicago headquarters and a distribution center in Springfield, Oregon.

The D.C. location is closing its doors as the owner — who plans to retire — failed to find anyone to take over the business, WUSA-TV reports. As for the Chicago headquarters, Do It Best Group — which acquired True Value back in 2024 — explains via statement the move will help consolidate the home improvement chain and its own company in the latter’s Indiana home office…
