COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A motorist who was wanted out of the Portland area reportedly engaged police in a pursuit on Interstate 5 that ended in a crash near Cottage Grove Thursday morning, according to the Oregon State Police.
The incident began Oregon State Police trooper tried to pull over a red Ford Ranger on April 23 at about 9:37 a.m. after it was flagged in an attempt-to-locate notice from the Portland area. The truck didn’t stop at first, then pulled over on the Interstate 5 off-ramp at milepost 189. According to Oregon State Police, while the trooper waited for backup, the driver took off again. The truck swerved while trying to get away and hit the side of a patrol car. It then rolled over several times. Emergency personnel were dispatched to southbound Interstate 5 near milepost 178 at 9:52 a.m., according to emergency dispatch logs.
