Lane County dad: daughter’s disability care now restricted

EUGENE, Ore. – Direct support professionals (DSP) help families who need in-home support for adults and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. But Lane County families are now saying DSPs can no longer provide transportation for their kids.

Nic Kephart, a Lane County father, said this new change is directly impacting his family.

“I personally rely on my DSP to safely transport my daughter from school to afterschool activities and for weekend outings when I am not available to drive my daughter myself,” Kephart said. “This also causes issues with trying to find and maintain a DSP as an employee as many of their time and hours come from transporting children with needs.”…
