Mother’s Day in Eugene features parks, powwows and fundraisers

EUGENE, Ore. – Families across the Eugene area spent Sunday outside celebrating Mother’s Day under sunny skies.

City officials say Hendricks Park typically sees 7,500 people on Mother’s Day. For the second year, the Women’s Advocacy Council for Youth (W.A.C.Y.), a young women’s organization sponsored by the nonprofit Ophelia’s Place, hosted a free event featuring pastries, tea and a bouquet-making station.

“I feel like it’s a way as a high schooler and a young woman to be involved in my community,” said Rebecca Allee, a W.A.C.Y. member. “I feel like I can really give my time and my support to sort of guide young women.”…
