EUGENE, Ore. – Emergency response crews worked quickly Friday morning to contain diesel and milk released into a creek flowing into the Upper McKenzie River after a tanker truck crashed near Belknap Springs.
According to the Oregon State Police, OSP troopers responded at about 4:30 a.m. on May 15 to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 126 East near milepost 10. The driver of a semi-truck hauling about 6,000 gallons of milk reportedly fell asleep and crashed down an embankment, state police said. Authorities said the milk, along with diesel fuel, poured into the river following the crash. The truck’s driver was not transported by medics, and the vehicle was towed due to the ongoing environmental hazard, OSP officials said.
The truck was carrying an estimated 275 gallons of diesel, EWEB officials said. McKenzie Watershed Emergency Response partners swiftly mobilized to contain the spill, and drinking water is not expected to be impacted…
