HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Leaders with the Hopkins County Government has announced that they will not be extending the gas tax implemented by Governor Andy Beshear’s state of emergency.
According to Judge Executive Jack Whitfield Jr., he did not extend the Governor’s emergency because it doesn’t move the needle for individuals but certainly will affect overall road conditions statewide. You can read his full statement below.
Kentucky governor appeals to Trump for relief at gas pump
As you may know, the Governor put an emergency order in place a month ago that lowered the gas tax 10 cents per gallon. The Governor’s emergency order authority is limited to only 30 days and then Judge/Executives and Mayors may request an extension. Only 28 out of 416 cities, and only five out of 120 counties, requested the extension.
Why, you may ask, didn’t all of the cities and counties request this extension? After all, everyone, including me, hates paying taxes and loves saving money. Where I not in this seat, with additional information, I’d certainly be asking why…
