New year brings new format for Memorial students

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – It’s a new school year for students at Memorial High School, and that new year brings new changes for not just those students, but staff members as well.

One change came bright and early with a 5 minute earlier start time to the school day. The school is also moving from a 2-semester format to 3 60-day trimesters.

“I will say it’s kind of nerve racking this year with the trimesters,” says Memorial junior Ella Smith, “everybody’s kind of new to it, so it’s not just the freshmen who are new to it, it’s all of us as well.”

Perhaps the biggest change will be what is being called “Formational Friday’s.” By staying 20 minutes later Monday through Thursday, the school day will end at 11:40 every Friday and will be followed by either speakers or a panel of experts, community service opportunities, or self-development for students…
