ON ALERT: Severe storm threat tonight, pushing extreme heat out

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – We have made it to the final day of the current extreme heat stretch. Heat index values are once again sitting in the triple digits, with some locations feeling as hot as 110 to 115 degrees. Following the dangerous heat will be a severe storm threat tonight and into the overnight hours.

Storm chances increase late this afternoon and tonight as a cold front approaches. A few isolated thunderstorms could develop before sunset, but the main window for stronger storms looks to be between 10 PM and 3 AM. The severe weather risk has increased to a Slight Risk (2/5) along and north of the Ohio River, while the Marginal Risk (1/5) remains across the southern half of the Tri-State. Damaging wind gusts and strong downbursts will be the primary concern, although not everyone will see strong to severe storms…
