After Indiana cop found with tequila on golf course, he tells owner ‘no one can tell him what to do’

EVANSVILLE, IN — The 911 call came in at 5:53 p.m. on a Friday in June. A man described as highly intoxicated and belligerent would give his name but no identification, repeating, “I am EPD.”

What Evansville Police Department investigators later concluded happened next is why three officers recently received suspensions — one for the incident that prompted the call itself, and two more for trying to cover for a fellow officer who had found himself the subject of a 911 call rather than the first responder.

In addition to the three suspensions, the EPD and the Police Merit Commission have taken disciplinary action against a total of eight officers since July, according to public meeting agendas and police records. Five of the officers incurred suspensions, while three received written reprimands…
