Madisonville mayor accused of going 102 MPH

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Officials with the Kentucky State Police (KSP) confirmed on March 13 a citation was issued involving Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton.

Officers say Cotton was going 102 mph in a 70 mph zone. Officers confirmed the vehicle he was in belonged to the city of Madisonville.

KSP says this happened on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkins County.

Mayor Cotton released the following statement:

“Life is full of opportunities to learn. On March 13 th , I was given a reminder that I need to slow down. I was pulled over for speeding. I accepted the ticket with respect and appreciation. I am grateful for the Kentucky State Police officer and his due diligence, as it was a wake up call for me. Speeding is dangerous and sometimes we all need to be reminded that the highway laws are there for our protection and the protection of others. It has been an important lesson learned for me and hopefully for anyone reading this—slow down, pay attention, and get to your destination safely.”
