Man arrested for allegedly stealing cop car in Kentucky

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A Madisonville man was arrested after allegedly stealing a cop car.

Officers with the Madisonville Police Department (MPD) say on April 13 around 11:30 p.m., an officer was in the area of the public library on East Center Street when the officer heard loud noises near several empty storage containers. The officer notes due to being in a high-crime area, they believed a possible burglary was in progress.

The officer says they left their vehicle and began walking around the units. A short time later, the officer says they saw a man who was later identified as Matthew Alexander in the driver’s seat of their police cruiser. The officer reports Alexander stole the vehicle and sped east on East Center Street. MPD reports officers were immediately told about the incident and they located the vehicle a few moments later on Madison Square Drive.
