Earthquake shakes southeast Missouri, felt in Indiana, USGS reports

COOTER, Mo. (WEVV) — A moderate earthquake in southeast Missouri on Thursday sent tremors rippling across multiple states, with reports of shaking reaching as far as southern Indiana—where at least one Evansville resident reported the unexpected jolt.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck at 12:59 p.m. on April 23. The epicenter was located about half a mile northwest of Cooter, Missouri, at a depth of approximately seven miles.
