Medical professionals provide safety tips for parents ahead of summer break

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Swimming will be one of the prime ways to have fun this summer, but it can also be dangerous.

Dr. John Voyles, M.D., with Ascension St. Vincent says, “You’d be surprised, 15 to 20 seconds is enough to lead to a fatal drowning.”

Dr. Voyles says the best method of prevention is teaching children how to swim. “Kids have an innate ability to swim early on, and if you kind of harness that ability and you keep them in the water each summer, and you have some instruction, you can teach them to learn to swim very early.”…
