The longest game of the season for the Wilson Warbirds ended with their 10th walkoff victory, a 10-9 decision in 11 innings over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in the Single-A Carolina League series opener at Wilson Ballpark on Tuesday, July 7.
Filippo Di Turi, who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the 10th inning, sliced the first pitch he saw from Woodpeckers reliever Grayson Saunier down the left-field line to score Wilson teammate Juan Ortuno from third base and end the game as a light rain gathered momentum.
