575 Recognition Art Exhibition Reception, through July 8: Red Springs Artspace is hosting an opening reception for “575 Recognition”, a juried art exhibition. The exhibition is celebrating the Lumbee Tribe’s full Federal recognition. The exhibition will be on display at Red Springs Artspace from July 24 through July 8. An opening reception will be held June 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The regular open hours Red Springs Artspace is: Sundays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Strike At The Wind, July 4-18, 7 p.m; “Strike at the Wind” is an outdoor drama held in the amphitheater of the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. The play chronicles the life of Henry Berry Lowrie, who led a band of men in a seven-year conflict against the Confederate Home Guard after the unjust killings of his father and brother. It highlights vigilante justice resistance, and the active fight for the Lumbee people’s rights during the post-Civil War era in North Carolina. Tickets are available through the ticket office of Given’s Performing Arts Center ( https://www.uncp.edu/community-and-culture/givens-performing-arts-center/index.html) and at the entrance of the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center, the night of the performance.
