LUMBERTON — Danny Henderson’s opening round of the Robeson County Golf Championship didn’t get off to the best start, with double bogey on the opening hole of the tournament. But 17 holes — and two eagles — later, Henderson’s 2-under-par round of 70 around Pinecrest Country Club has him leading the Championship Division after the opening round of the 46th annual tournament sponsored by Dial Insurance.
Henderson holds a one-stroke lead over Scott Benton and Mack Kenney ahead of a crowded leaderboard, with 14 players within five strokes of the lead.
Henderson, who birdied No. 2 and bogeyed No. 3 before four straight pars, hit his second shot to inside five feet on the par-5 eighth and converted the eagle. After two more pars on Nos. 9 and 10, Henderson also eagled the next par-5 on No. 11 by making a long putt…
