FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Parking downtown Fayetteville may cost just $1 an hour, but the city says the program is costing taxpayers much more.
Fayetteville spends roughly $1 million each year to operate its downtown parking program, including maintaining parking spaces and decks, patrolling lots and enforcing parking violations. But parking fees and citations don’t generate enough money to cover the full cost. About half of the program’s funding comes from the city’s General Fund, meaning taxpayer dollars help make up the difference.
